Want to experience the cultural gems of De Wallen in a day? Join the Culturele Wallen Route on Saturday, September 7th. From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, we will open our doors free of charge to everyone in Amsterdam. During this day, we offer paint and etching demonstrations. There will also be a walk-in drawing workshop in our Open Studio.
Paint or etching demo’s
Rembrandt and his pupils made their own paints. But which pigments and oils did they use to do so? In the museum, you can find out more about Rembrandt’s process of making paint in Rembrandt’s studio. In our new etching loft, you can also learn more about Rembrandt’s etching techniques. It’s like looking over the artist’s shoulder. Rembrandt made around 300 etchings and dry needles. Each one is a true work of art. He printed them in editions of ten to several dozen. He experimented with different techniques and with varying types of paper. The etchings were much less expensive than the paintings and must have sold well. Our museum teachers will tell you about this technique in an interactive way.
Culturele Wallen
The Culturele Wallen Route on September 7 begins at Waag Futurelab on the Nieuwmarkt. You can see how a laser cutter makes the unique Culture Wallen keychains. After that, everyone is welcome at Huis De Pinto, Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer Op Solder, the Oude Kerk, Frascati, Flemish Culture House De Brakke Grond, Museum Rembrandthuis and W139 for guided tours, performances, exhibitions, workshops, concerts or lectures.
